Puyol announces resignation from role with Barcelona

Former Barcelona captain Carles Puyol announced his decision to leave the club as deputy sporting director following the sacking of former sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta

In a statement published via his official Facebook account, Puyol explained his decision to remove himself from his role with the club.

 By this statement I want to announce that I have decided to terminate my employment with Football Club Barcelona.

 These three and a half months have given me the opportunity to see the other side of the club. I learned a lot, I’m very grateful and now want to experience other things from another perspective and from elsewhere. I want to grow both personally and professionally so that in the future, hopefully, I can return to this house and give you back everything you have given me … during these unforgettable years. I remain extremely grateful to employees, directors, the president and sports management for trusting me and helping in this transition, which was not easy for me. And especially to the fans, with whom as a player I had always felt very close and now, since my retirement, I feel much closer still.

 I would’ve liked to say goodbye to you all with my boots on, but life doesn’t always work out how you want.

 I have been and am very lucky to feel so much love, so I can only say THANK YOU and know that I always carry you all in my heart.
