Martino: "I didn't bring anything to Barcelona"
Gerardo Martino does not believe his time as Barcelona's coach brought either the club or Lionel Messi "anything". In an interview published in the newspaper 'Clarin', the Argentine national team coach was emphatic when asked whether he had been able to teach Messi anything. "Nothing. Nothing at all. Not to him or to Barça", the former 'Azulgrana' manager revealed. "I didn't make any mark on Barcelona, it was a bubble in my career in terms of what I did as a coach", said Martino, who thinks it "logical" to describe his year as coach of Barça as a failure. "I went to a team that always won and didn't win anything while I was there. The 'Supercopa' is next to nothing for Barcelona", said the Argentine. "All I learned in Barcelona was about being surrounded by stars, by the best in the world", continued Martino, who left Barça in May and took over as manager of the Argentine national squad in August. "I made some monumental mistakes with Barcelona" admitted Martino, who declined to elaborate further, saying "I'll tell you in another life", to avoid raking over his blunders. He wrapped up by revealing that he did not look on his time at Barça as a happy one. "I'm telling you what I feel. If you want me to lie, I'll say it was great", he concluded.
